The "Vacationland" paintings are about helplessness and isolation. I’ve been trying to come to terms with feelings of loss; the death of family members, the end of my youth, my country as I believed it could be and the natural environment. The figures, often naked, are vulnerable. As I paint I play with the illusion of the canvas in a way that I hope to make the viewer feel discordance and a sense of foreboding.

In the “Don’t Tread On Me” paintings we are stopped, planted to the road. These paintings were done post-election in reaction to my fear of where we might be headed under a Donald Trump presidency. A play on words, using the slogan from the early days of the American Revolution.
